Overview

Bristol University was established as a degree-granting public research university in 1909 by the virtue of a Royal Charter. Originally founded as Merchant Venturers School in 1595 and University College, Bristol in 1876, it is one of the nine civic UK universities established in the 19th century. This makes it a red-brick Russell Group research university in Bristol. In the present times, it is an employer to fellows of reputed British Academies and has 9 Nobel Laureates as its alumni.
